On Schools for "Biblical" Lawyers (8-20-04)

Newsday reported that Jerry Falwell is integrating his faith into the law school at Liberty University:

"We want to infiltrate the culture with men and women of God who are skilled in the legal profession," Falwell said in a telephone interview Tuesday with The Associated Press. "We'll be as far to the right as Harvard is to the left."

Lawyers as "infiltrators." Is this more "Holy war" rhetoric? Merriam-Webster's Dictionary offers a couple definitions of "infiltrate" that may be pertinent: "to pass (troops) singly or in small groups through gaps in the enemy line" or "to enter or become established in gradually or unobtrusively usually for subversive purposes."

First Pat Robertson created a Law School at Regents University to train 'Dominionist' judges and lawyers. Now Falwell wants a Law School of his own. Could Falwell be jealous of the success that Regents University graduates have had at finding placement at high level civil service positions and appointments in Washington, D.C. and in government offices around the country?

Those who understand the role of "magistrates" in "Dominionist" theology might have reason for some concern.

People who believe that it is allowable to force their faith on others either through legislation, or through force of arms have missed the fundamental concept of willing devotion and the gift of human love to divinity without the taint of fear or loathing, or coercion.

Creating more "christians" through coercion, minimizes the very real devotion and reciprocal relationship with Christ or with YHWH by those who give of themselves freely, those who are Christians [note capitalization].

This attempt changes this from a religious movement at its core and turns this into a grab for nothing but political power. Its a scheme that is base and unworthy of the faith, or of the spirit of Christ. There is no justification for this movement. It is simply a mixture of people hungry for power and consumed by fear.

In the Old Testament Elohim would send a satan to earth to challenge mortals. Elohim wanted to be sure that the motivation was for love of him, and not as it seems now, the use of his name in vain to subjugate people in the hopes of gaining power over them, and over their resources.

Clearly God has sent a satan to this earth to test his followers, and in the case of Dominion and Kingdom Now adherents, they have followed the advesary down the garden path plucking the fruits of power, fear, and avarice, leaving grace on its thorny vine. Clearly living in this world as a Christian among others who are different is too hard, its must easier to force them to comform.
