Nothing could be crazier than basing foreign policy on literal interpretations of apocalyptic passages of scripture. That is a sure fire way to usher in an apocalypse.

That's not a bug. It's a feature.
They WANT to bring on the apocalypse.
It doesn't matter what happens in the Middle East, the premillenial crowd around Falwell and others will find it in the Bible. They have no concept of what apocalyptic literature was intended to be and do when it was written, and it's sad.
