President Bush is loudly proclaiming that the US "does not torture."
That, after revelation after revelation that that is exactly what the US has done and is doing at Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo, and in secret rendition camps around the world.
The man's mendacity is pathological.
Appointing legions of hack attorneys to redefine the meaning of the word "torture," does not alter the reality that cruel, inhumane and barbaric acts are being condoned and committed by agents of the US government.

As we continue to battle terrorism, it has become evident and even obvious to me, that the only effective way to obtain necessary info from terrorists who seek to kill, maim, hurt, and destroy, is to make them hurt a little. Otherwise, what motivation do they have to "give it up," so to speak. If I get caught speeding and get a ticket, I try not to do it again because I do NOT like the heavy fine they levy against me! My banker agrees.
With no inflicted pain, we as a USA Country and Govt. receive no gain! With no pain, the terrorist sits across the interrogation table and inwardly MOCKS & LAUGHS at what he considers a 'Pig of a Govt.' (the USA) If we do not inflict some degree of pain, he sees us weak and wimpy.
So, I feel our agents are well within their ethical rights (and it seems to even be necessary) to use some kind of 'torture' to gain the necessary info. While some will disagree with me, I think history has proven this ideology correct. And, the future will bear it out, too. Without the necessary action by our AGENTS, we as a country are destined for more peril, attacks, and harm.
We need to look no further than the first WTC attack in the early '90's that mostly failed ... and then remember the one that succeeded on 9-11. What if we had used more "necessary means" to extract info back in the early '90's? Would 9-11 have occurred as it did? Well, only God knows everything, but it is certainly food for thought.

It seems to me that your using the standard "do unto them as they do unto you." I think Jesus said "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Paul reminded us that we are no to repay evil with evil, thereby being overcome by evil, but rather to repay evil with good, thereby defeating evil.
I suggest that it is just the practice of returning evil for evil that has set the context for the growth of terrorism and the targeting of the USA as the perceived supporter of evil in the homelands of the terrorists.
Let's break the cycle by becoming imitators of Christ. Try it. The alternative isn't working, so what do you have to loose?
dr. bobby clearly doesn't give a damn about the teachings of Jesus.
dr. bobby's focus is on alleged short term expediency, which he then tries to pass off as "ethical."
Even Sen. McCain and lots of other Senators, Representatives, former Presidents, and leaders of all of the civilized world recognize that what dr. bobby says is pure Bull Shit. What he advocates is not even expedient in the short or long run.
The traditional position in Christendom known as the just war theory recognizes that what dr. bobby discusses is totally unjustifiable; it is WRONG, IMMORAL, UNETHICAL.
If one goes further to examine the ethics that Jesus taught and practiced, not only is torture a sin, but so is the whole War on Iraq sinful.
Whom would Jesus torture today?
Bush's tactic seems to be to redefine "torture" so that it doesn't include tactics that we previously prosecuted people for employing--rather like Bill Clinton trying to redefine adultery so that oral sex was not included!
Dr.Bobby does not only ignore Jesus' teachings, which he does, but the fact that, except on TV, torture doesn't WORK. Israel's secret service gave it up because they got bad intelligence that way. People who are tortured will say ANYTHING to get you to stop--and this includes simple sleep deprivation. One gets better intelligence from ordinary interrogation.
Dr. Bobby implies that 9/11 could have been prevented if we had tortured. Nonsense: We had enough info. to prevent the tragedy: the problems included inter-agency feuds and bureacracy and a Bush admin. that ignored repeated warnings about al-Qaeda.
But even if torture worked, it would still be immoral. It would also cause more harm than good even if it worked: It lowers our moral authority in the world, prevents us from winning people to our side (creating more terrorists) and exposes Americans to similar treatment by others.
