I'm curious. I wonder how many baby murderers, I mean abortion doctors, are afraid of John McCain or Sarah Palin? For that matter, I wonder how many homosexuals wishing to marry are afraid of John McCain or Sarah Palin?
I'm not sure what any unbalanced person might or might not do. I am responsible for me. Further, the law of the land is not "life of the mother" only. If that were the case there would be FAR fewer abortions performed.
As an aside, no doctor should have to worry about his or her safety while doing their job within the confines of our current legal system. Anyone who harms another person should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
"I am responsible for me . . .", the sine qua non of modern-day fundamentalist morality. Since you're responsible for no one but yourself, Joe, why don't you mind your own business and let women and their doctors worry about their pregnancies?
The fact is that women have a choice. If they get pregnent it's because they made a choice***. What they want to do by having an abortion is absolve themselves of the CONSEQUENCES of that choice. Further, the US Sumpreme Court was wrong to legalize abortion because it is immoral. It is the responsiblity of Christians to proclaim biblical morality. That is why true Christians are anti-abortion.
***Of course, rape is never a woman's choice. However, the law of the land is not "only in cases of rape or the health of the mother". If that were the case, there would be far fewer abortions performed. Rape is a crime and should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
I'm glad you're standing up for biblical morality. More of us should do so. But you should do so without using incendiary language, because as you now point our, your responsibilities extend beyond yourself. That was Bruce's point, and mine.
And by the way, I always believed that being a "true" Christian had something to do with faith in Jesus Christ, but in fact it's determined by where one stands on the abortion debate. Thanks for sharing that.
JB's ignorance is almost as astounding as his irresponsibility.
Doctors who sometimes perform abortions are not "murderers." JB is apparently unaware of the wide diversity of occasions on which performing an operation that terminates a pregnancy is not only legally permissible, but also morally justifiable.
Unwarrantedly trying to brand someone who performs an abortion a "murderer" is demonstrably related to sanctioning and inciting other person to commit assault on such persons. A number of individuals who buy into that sort of inflamed rhetoric have followed it up by killing persons working at clinics where abortions are performed. Responsible opponents of abortion have learned to tone down the irresponsible language, and address their concerns in a more informed manner.
The issue here is the same as the unintended consequences of a woman's choice to have sexual intercourse. You want to claim she must accept the responsibility for those consequences, but brush off your own responsiblity for the unintended consequences of your overly inflamed rhetoric.
It is rather ironic to see a self-professed advocate of "biblical morality" parroting the line of Cain: "Am I my brother's keeper?" All of us, Christian, Jew, Muslim, et. al., bear responsiblity to care for each other--even the other "unbalanced person."
JB is certain that having or performing an abortion is incompatible with true Christianity. That is a crock. Jesus said absolutely nothing about abortion. The Jewish scriptures do not offer a condemnation of abortion. They do at one point suggest a fine for inadvertently causing a woman to miscarry in some cases. Several of the prophets and/or wise men in the OT lament that they were not aborted before their birth (with no hint of that being immoral). It is a distortion of the Bible to try to pin on it an anti-abortion stance.
JB seems to operate under the illusion that making abortions illegal, or making more of them illegal, would significantly decrease the number of abortions being performed. No responsible social scientist believes that.
What I don't get is how so many can be fooled by the Republican's promise to end abortion and protect us from gay mariage. They are only using these issues as a smoke screen to gather votes. Once in office they continue to grow government and increase the national debt.
Before Roe-v-Wade there were abortions only the rich had doctors to proform them safely and the poor had coat hangers. Much needs to be done to eliminate the need for abortion. Abstinence only education worked well for Sarah Pallen's daughter and even her mother supported her choice to marry and have the baby. To bad she doesn't want other women to have that choice. When you look at the state of our country today you should ask yourself how voting on the single issues like overturning Roe-v-Wade or gay marriage has worked for our country the last eight years. I don't remember either topic being brought before congress by President Bush once in the last eight years.
I often wonder how Jesus would feel about today's christians and organized religion. Sometimes they seem so unlike Jesus.

Just curious. What do you think?
Joe,
Some of those abortion doctors are actually saving a mother's life.
I wonder whether your calling them "baby murderers" makes these doctors worry that you might incite some unbalanced person to attack them.
