What About Medicare-for-All?

Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont has offered an amendment to the healthcare reform bill that would make medicare available to everybody.

Medicare is one of the most popular government programs in existence.

I think it is a worthy alternative to the private insurance-if-you-can-get-it program that we have now.

Does anyone in DC think before he speaks? Medicare is not free!! It is a gov't mandated insurancs policy that working people PAY for thru payroll deductions, often for 40 years or more. If you die before age 65, you get no return on your payments, but if you hang on long enough the 'policy' does help to pay medical bills. How could it possibly begin to cover "everyone' before they have paid into the program?

I think medicare for all is a great idea. Sure its costs will go up. You can't expand it to everybody without spending more money.
However, that would be partially offset by not paying private insurers.
I think that covering the 30 to 40 million people who are not covered would provide a return also. Better health for them has to be worth something to our economy. In addition to being the right thing to do.
