Called to Teach, Condemned to Survive

Kudos to Jan Turentine for her essay on "Teaching as Calling." Teaching is a most challenging and demanding calling.

Unfortunately, it has become a calling that is also requiring a vow of poverty.

Teachers are undoubtedly the most poorly paid professionals in American society.

Hi!

I am in my 25 year as a teacher, and I truly feel it is my calling. There are a lot of Christian public school teachers out there. I can attest to the fact that we are not treated as professionals. We are the last to get credit and the first to get the blame. I know that all teachers are not great, but there are a lot of good ones out there.

God Bless,

When your father first started teaching. We could have qualified for food stamps if I hadn't been working.
