On Baptist Press Propaganda for Christian Nationalism

Today's Baptist Press report about the IRS investigation of Wiley Drake ignores what is obvious from statements in its own report. The first statement of the report, written by Mark Kelly, states:

The Internal Revenue Service has opened an inquiry into an Aug. 11, 2007, "personal endorsement" of presidential candidate Mike Huckabee issued by Wiley Drake, pastor of First Southern Baptist Church of Buena Park, Calif., on church letterhead.
The last paragraph of Kelly's report states:

Drake also was briefly in the media spotlight in 2006, when he created letterhead for himself as Southern Baptist Convention second vice president and used it to endorse a candidate for U.S. Senate. He received a stern warning from D. August Boto, the SBC's general counsel that such activities should cease.
It is going to be hard for Drake to pretend that he had never been warned that it is illegal to write political endorsements on the letterhead of non-profit organizations. It's equally hard to believe that the reporters and editors at Baptist Press lack the understanding necessary to perceive that Americans United has raised a legitimate concern. Instead, they quote the propaganda of Wiley Drake's attorney without question or comment.

This is further evidence that Baptist Press has been reduced to just one of the Religious Right's many propaganda mouthpieces for Christian Nationalism.

Baptist Press became nothing but a house organ for the Fundamentalist agenda on the day in 1990 that Dan Martin & Al Shackelford were fired.

Why were they fired? For displaying a disturbing propensity for publishing the truth about the activities of Patterson, Pressler, and their toadies! Their firing was one of the first steps the Fundamentalists took after consolidating their control over the SBC.

As you point out, Bruce, the Fundamentalist agenda has turned out to be political, not theological. Whether the agenda is to take over a denomination or a country, Baptist Press has been the house organ that has obediently played the piper's tune. Where journalistic integrity is concerned, the tune has been "Taps."

Thank God for Associated Baptist Press, which has filled the journalistic void left when Baptist Press came under Fundamentalist control.

Wiley Drake is bigoted and a racist. One of the symptoms of a mentally ill person like himself, is that they have no idea that they are in fact ill. He seems to suffer from several kinds of illnesses. One of them being megalomania. This world would be a much better place for everyone to live, if he would be put into a mental hospital. Because then this world would not be forced to listen to his nonsense. If he really wanted to help and do this world some good, he could start by helping all of the homeless people who live there in his church shelter. Instead of spending all of his time trying to get himself notoriety by trying to get involved in politics. If he wanted to be a politician, he should have tried that. But i have a feeling that he would have been laughed right out of politics. Too bad that nobody is believing any of his insanity. And the sooner he is ignored, the better. He is only interested in his own personal issues such as "boycotting Disneyland" and "boycotting McDonalds", and trying to get Barack Obama investigated. What a huge ass Drake has made of himself, the biggest idiot on this planet. Obama is already elected President. Drake is just hugely jealous because a black man has been elected President. And considering that Drake was a member of the KKK while in ARkansas, it's not too surprising that he is protesting Obama's election to President. It should be a concern of the Baptist churches everywhere, that Drake was run out of ARkansas. IT's no doubt that is because he did something illegal there and is now trying to get away with more of his nonsense in California. He needs to shut up and stop spouting off nonsense.
