Having faithfully implemented conservative ideas, Bush is blamed by disloyal ideologues to deflect attention from the failure of their ideas. Like Trotskyists for whom communism remained an unfulfilled ideal, conservatives claim that conservatism has not been tried and Bush is an "impostor". In attempting to avoid the nemesis of his father, Bush is reliving it.The strongest pattern that I can see to the divisions within the religious right over the nomination of Harriet Miers is religious.
Most of the right wing opponents of Miers appear to be Roman Catholics. Most of the right wing supporters of Miers appear to be Protestants. I suspect those divisions reveal a fault line in their positions on abortion -- Catholics being opposed to all abortions, Protestants being willing to grant an exception when the life of the mother is at stake.

What's with the video news coming up? It freezes my computer and makes me reboot.
Clarkson's Eternal Hostility hits the nail on the head. These people live for the battle. They have no sense of meaning or purpose other than to be in a fighting mode. They are never happy or satisfied and know nothing other than to attack, attack, attack whoever disagrees with them.
Hi!
Although I cannot take pleasure in the problems that are currently plaguing the Republican Party, nor did I take pleasure in hearing those problems of the previous administration, I hope that what is happening now underscores for Christians that a political party cannot be the standard bearer of our faith and values. To wholeheartedly "buy-into," the "family values" mantra of the political party currently in power is ludicrous. Politics are always corrupt at some level. Everyone within a particular party does not have the same motives and agenda. A case in point; during the 2000 Republican National Convention, a motion was made in committee to remove abortion from their platform. Where did this motion come from, thin air? The motion was defeated of course, but it illustrates the point that each party attracts a variety of members, each with their OWN motives and agenda. How well do we really know the men and women we vote for? My answer is not well at all. We look at labels and listen to sound bites, neither of which is a good indicator of the person underneath.
Family values starts and stops at home. They may however, extend outward to include other family and friends in the community, including the community known as our Church. They are personal and specific to each family.
Am I ever suprised when politicians disappoint? Very rarely.
Just my rambling thoughts.
God Bless,
