Plug-In for Good Karma

Scattered across the internet are reports about Fisker Automotive's Karma. A plug-in hybrid that will go from 0 to 60 MPH in 6 seconds, with a top speed of 125 MPH, and able to drive the first 50 miles without a drop of gas. Slated to sell for $80K with delivery around June 2009.

This one sounds literally too good to be true. I'll bet it does suck in a lot of venture capital.

$80K a pop is still a little dear for your garden variety commuter. I'm holding out for one at the price of a Prius, which is still too expensive for a lot of people.

Ron,

If somebody can make one for 80K in 2009, somebody will be making something similar for 40K by 2012, and somebody will be making them for 20K by 2015.

If this is for real, the light at the end of the tunnel for the transportation crisis is in view.

Oh, don't get me wrong ... I'm all for it. We need to electrify our transportation system quickly and eliminate fossil fuel power generation. The spending that is required for this is significant, but significantly less than the annual cost of the Cheney/Bush adventure in Iraq.

Scientific American provides a big picutre for power generation: http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=a-solar-grand-plan
