Vice President Biden said the administration "misread" the economy in January. They underestimated the level of unemployment to expect.
The chart above is from the administration's research for Obama's stimulous program. The unemployment rate has already reached the level that the administration estimated for an economy without the stimulous.

we,as a country are in uncharted waters and many things have changed since the last depression. we an economy of a much larger scale and thankfully a social safety net much larger that provides for many.
The thing that bothers me most is we are not a united country and those that oppose what our government is doing to right the boat do so at their own peril. I just don't understand how those opposed to their actions cannot see what the alternative is.
Money is the problem.
Faith in government is also.
This wrangling amongst ourselves serves no one.
