Associated Baptist Press is reporting that Herb Reynolds, President Emeritus of Baylor University and Founder of Truett Seminary, has died. He was 77 years old.
Reynolds was a towering figure in Baptist life. Mainstream Baptists will sorely miss him.

Yes, though I come from a different Baptist strand--even among "moderates"--I recognize the importance of Reynolds and mourn his passing. It is sad that he did not live to see the Celebration of the New Baptist Covenant, nor to greet the 400th anniversary of Baptist life in '09.
