Regarding Our Deregulated Student Loan Industry

Today's Washington Post has a story about how the current administration derailed rules in 2001 that would have regulated the unethical practices of student lenders.

It is clear that this administration was more interested in spreading wealth to the well-connected than in assisting students get a good education.

Sooner or later, students who are overloaded repaying loans for an education they were told would get them good jobs (now being outsourced overseas) are going to balk at taking the blame for their declining standard of living.

These same students are being counted on to pay the bills for the baby boomer's impending social security and medicare expenses, for this administration's budget deficits, and for the Iraq war debt.

In time, some of these students are going to figure out that the system was rigged against them from the very beginning.

Have you covered the story yet that this administration is to blame for jaywalkers getting hit by cars, bad weather, youngun's loosing their teeth, hair falling out in old people and other worthy subjects?

mom2,

A person would have to be blind not to notice a pattern in the Bush administration. Their policy seems to be to place the financial burdens of the nation on those who are the least able to pay. Tax cuts for the rich, cuts in the school lunch programs, and continued attempts to significantly reduce or eliminate capital gains and inheritance taxes are all further signs of this pattern of abuse.

I was a Democrat for over 40 years and I saw a pattern there. They have turned completely to the immoral policies that go against the Bible. What do we think is more important in this world, pleasing God or man? You can bash Bush all you want, but he is as human as we are and will make mistakes. The bias on this site is so blatant, you would have to be blind not to see that.

Mom2,

Wow! You read a lot into my post that is certainly not there. I responded with hard facts, none of which you disputed. Instead you responded with the kind of vague accusations that is so typical of the religious right. Are the democrats right on every issue? NO! Are the republicans right on every issue? NO! They are wrong on caring for the poor! They are wrong on health care! They are WRONG on this war! And as long as neither side has it right, there needs to be Christians on both sides of the aisle.

A Christian is not more or less of a Christian because he or she is a democrat or republican, and Christianity is about A LOT more than abortion and gay marriage! But, that is all we seem to hear about at election time. When was the last time you researched where a politician stood on eliminating hunger in this country? Let's take a look at how many times the Bible mentions that issue, and then we can start talking about pleasing God!

Political parties were/are devised by men and a equally subject to corruption. To believe either one of them follow biblical principles is naive, and forces a person to make choices about which sins are "greater." The bible clearly teaches that sin is sin. When people "rate" sins, to justify who they vote for, they are projecting their own feelings, not God's.
