Since 1979 having "conservative" credentials has nothing to do with having a place in Southern Baptist life. Richard Jackson and Winfred Moore had impeccable "conservative" credentials until they became nominees for president of the SBC in opposition to approved fundamentalist takeover candidates. SBC life has been all about politics since 1979.
Wade Burleson and the next generation of Southern Baptists are now learning that for themselves. Here's a link to the ABP story about the ongoing campaign to oust Burleson from his position as trustee of the International Mission Board.

I was 15 in 1979 and aware even then of the creeping radicalism in my beooved SBC, which I am on the verge of abandoning. It's just a matter of paperwork. I haven't attended a Baptist church since I was in high school. I attended a United Methodist church off and on for several years. I'm fixin' to join -- see, I'm still Southern if not baptist -- join a Congregationalist church.
Speaking of, if you're not already aware of it, go to Amazon and search for "Robin Meyers" or "Wy the Christian Right is Wrong,: which comes out May 19. Debut book-signing May 20 10 a.m. to noon at Flipsm the restaurant in OKC.
I check in here fairly often. You do good, brother.
Peace.
Somehow I am deeply disturbed by these latest goings on in the SBC. I though...whistfully...that the conservatives would be able to build something Godly and we could all learn to live together later. It seems that the gentlemen in charge of the SBC are posessed of a destructive spirit that I cannot recognize as Godly.
It saddens me to no end. I pray for Wade and the others as they work for the salvation of their brothers and sisters.
