According to the Rev. Luis Cortés Jr., president of Esperanza USA in Philadelphia, Hispanic pastors are "distraught" because after strongly supporting Republicans on family issues, immigration is causing them to rethink their support. "Immigration is a family values issue," Cortés said.
White evangelicals and Hispanic evangelicals are deeply split on the issue. While white evangelicals have polled higher than the general population in considering immigrants a burden to society, for instance, nearly 60 percent of Hispanic evangelicals believe immigrants strengthen society.
"A divide is an understatement," Rodriguez said of white and Hispanic evangelicals' differing views. "The term is schism."

Very intersting piece.
Oklahoma Republicans are making that sort of mistake in spades, I think. But the thoughtless Democrats are too afraid of their redneck constituents to do the right thing on this issue too.
I visited with a couple of legislators on HB 1804 this very evening--one who voted for and one who voted against. I also am trying to help educated the only two announced candidates for our local OK House seat on the immorality and sheer idiocy of HB 1804. In addition, it is absolutely contrary to the Biblical prinicple for the treatment of aliens.
This is one of those issues on which, as I see it, Biblical teachings, moral principles, economic sense, pragmatic political insight, and common sense all line up on the same side: entirely against HB 1804.
It is the worst piece of legislation to come down the pike since I got to Oklahoma 40+ years ago.
Are any of them discussing ILLEGAL immigration?
I'm not really aware of anyone short of the freaks up in Topeka who are against immigration qua immigration. Isn't the question whether it's kosher to cross the border ILLEGALLY?
