The Financial Times is reporting that the Pentagon has reversed a policy on interrogation techniques that was ordered by its former General Counsel William Haynes. In compliance with a recent Supreme Court ruling, the Pentagon has ordered that all detainees in U.S. military custody around the world -- including Guantanamo and Iraq -- are entitled to protections under the Geneva Conventions.
It's hard for me to believe that we actually had to go through this exercise. It should be standard operating procedure for every civilized country.
Meanwhile, William Haynes has been nominated to become a federal judge. His hearing before Congress is today.
