I don't have any grandchildren yet, but should my children ever produce any, President Bush is assuring that they will have to work twice as hard to achieve the same standard of living that I enjoy. Associated Press just reported that President Bush has ruled out a tax hike to pay for hurricane recovery.
What kind of parent runs up debts for his children and grandchildren to pay? Bush has already left the bill for his war in Iraq for my children to pay. Now he's leaving the bill for rebuilding after Hurricane Katrina to my grandchildren.
When evangelical Christians teamed up with the neo-conservatives to secure power, they turned the government over the most devious, elitist, myopic ideologues in the country.
Pay day will come some day. The aftermath will be no more pleasant than the aftermath of Katrina. Already, too many sensitive and intelligent young people are rejecting Jesus right along with the discredited supply-side economics that most evangelicals have embraced. A supply side Jesus would endorse the money changers at the temple, not throw them out.

A lot of Christians just don't care about the economic toll that will be paid later for the incompetence of this administration. Even before the election last November, my pastor was encouraging us to "not vote our pocketbooks." To me, this is tantamount to an admission that he knew we would be hurt financially by voting for the President, but we should vote for him nonetheless, because he says he is a Christian, he says he prays, he says he is pro-life, he says he is pro marriage, he says he is ______. Well, you get the picture. I've decided that Christians are some of the most gullible people in the world. God want us to be discerning; instead we are gullible. The "W" stickers are gradually disappearing from the Church parking lot, but with each new crisis or disaster, the excuses get more creative.

Progress comes slowly to evangelical Christians.
The absence of "W" stickers is a positive sign.
Still, I'm beginning to understand how the penalty for the sins of the fathers gets transmitted to the third and fourth generation.
East Texas is still sporting lots of Bush/Cheney signs some people never learn.
"W" stickers are everywhere here in Houston, especially in the church parking lot where I work. What I can't understand is the "blind" faith these christians have in this man. One of them told me the reason he supports Bush was because Bush never waivers off course, even if he's steering us in the wrong direction. Go figure.
Doesn't the Bible say something about being a good steward with what God has given. Hmmm, let's see...giving tax cuts to the rich and making a pledge to spend whatever it costs (for big business that is) to rebuild New Orleans...where is the good stewardship. And if I recall correctly respect of persons is a sin too.
Maybe the reason why so many evangelical Christians can't see the sins of their idol Bush is because they aren't really Christians. After all, they place their faith in him and not Christ. (The Bible does say that God blinds the eyes of those who do not seek the truth.)
Even up here in Red State Alberta, George is seen as the second coming. The poor are demonized, the environment is being destroyed, and a no-holds barred economy is, somehow, seen as more "biblical."
Christians who ignore the poor, so so at their own peril.
