Today's Washington Post has published a story about a survey that says more than half of teenagers between the ages of 15 and 19 years of age have engaged in oral sex.
There is little doubt in my mind that Bill Clinton's affair with Monica Lewinsky has something to do with the dramatic increase in oral sex among today's teenagers. I also believe that Clinton's indiscretion received a lot more notoriety and publicity than was necessary when the preaching of right wing evangelicals became fixated on oral sex as Clinton was being impeached.
Clinton didn't talk about oral sex over and over again in mass media. TV preachers did.

Clinton didn't publish all the sordid details and then post it on the internet either, that was Kenneth Starr.
However I don't think there is that much of a cause/effect relationship with this incident. Most of the kids today have never even heard of Lewinskygate, and the ones alive then weren't paying attention. They were too busy watching all documentaries on HBO, Showtime, and the emphasis the movies have had lately showing oral sex.

Teens barely know who the President is, I can attest that, even at my advanced age, boys were telling girls that oral sex wasn't "really" sex back in the seventies.
The REAL issue is education, my church has a ten week sex education course that I have put my children in, and belive me, they KNOW what sex is, and how to prevent disease and pregnancy.
They also know that oral and anal sex is SEX and can spread disease.

The oral sex boom has happened, in part due to the American way of looking for a loophole to justify any behavior, in part due to the fact that you can't get pregnant from it, in part due to the fact that our girls are starving for unconditional affection from Dads and will allow themselves to be degraded to get some false, fleeting feeling of value, and in part due to the churches that have talked about abstaining from sex, rather than sin, and in part cause there is a breakdown of cultural mores and it isn't remotely taboo.
