The former interim Prime Minister in Iraq says his country is on the verge of civil war.
Britain is reported to have secret plans to begin withdrawing troops from Iraq in three months.
The war in Iraq has not made the world a safer place. It has made it more dangerous.
How long will it be before American troops are withdrawn?

Anon,
tell us, what do you think will happen if we pulled up stakes and got out now. You seem to know more than the rest of us. Tell us.
anonymous & mom2,
There's little doubt in my mind that the U.S. will pull out "prematurely" in your opinion and that you will blame the left for undermining your war effort.
Our presence in Iraq is part of the problem in that country, not the solution.
Iraq is not a territory of the U.S. Saddam is gone. The Iraqi's are going to have to determine their own form of government and who will lead it.
The ultimate problem is that we rushed to war without a plan to SECURE THE PEACE. From everything I have read, we simply do not have enough manpower to do that.
I think we are also arrogantly assuming that the Iraqis want democracy, and I am not sure that they do, or even understand what that means. During the height of the conflict, I saw an interview with a solder. This solder was asked by an Iraqi civillian when he would be free. The soldier told him that he was free. The Iraqi responded by saying, "But I am not rich." I am also not at all sure that the minorities are willing to be ruled by the majority. I think this is one of the reasons why we are seeing so many problems now. There are many Iraqis who do not feel that the government speaks for them, so they are resorting to violence to make their voices heard.
Mom2, you said that if it weren't for the US, Saddam would still be illing, brutalizing and burying his own people. That is true, but there also would not be thousands of insurgents doing the same thing. Saddam was a brutal dictator, but he was certainly not the only one. I also don't think he was the biggest threat to national security. We should start drafting men and women now if we plan to go after every dictator who is trying to acquire WMD's.
War should be a last resort, not a choice. This was a war of choice.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.

Oh my. The "D" word...did someone say D R A F T? We already have forced conscription, for the military only, it's called Stop Loss and Reactivation. If we have a draft does that mean anonymous will have to wear boots and start packing a gun?

ccsykes,
Thanks for your comments.
ccsykes...that's my soldier boy..my son..I asked him for his comments.
ccyks thanks for your insight it means more than any thing anonymous can say. Also anonymous before you want to match knowledge of history with Greek Shadow. I think you need to research his back ground. I dare say you don't have the knowledge of secular or religious history that he does.
Anon and others if you want to research your history of this type of warfare I would suggest William B. Asprey's "War in the Shadows" It is a two volume tome devoted to guerilla warfare. The first volume covers all of history until Vietnam and Vol 2 is devoted to Vietnam. Or if you don't feel inclined to read that much try T.E. Lawrences "Seven Pillars of Wisdom" Both books do the math. The only way to win a guerilla war is to station armed troops in such a concentration that there is no way anyone can commit a crime without being detected and retaliated against. The math always says that it costs too much to do that. The only other way to win this kind of war is to get the people to turn in the guerillas so that there is no refuge for them, the drawback here is that the guerillas know who is for them and who is against them. Invading countries and their military don't know who is friend or foe. What ccsykes has pointed out and what most everyone has known since day one is that this administration is completely mathematics impaired. Rumsfeld bragged about how cheap this war would be before the first shot was fired. Bush was confronted by soldiers who asked him point blank where the armored vehicles were to protect them, and guess what they still aren't there. They shrug off the blood sweat and tears of the soldiers dying for corporate greed, and anon and others of his ilk chant the mantra of support our troops. Let Rumsfeld and Bush support our troops by providing for the healthcare problems they are incurring due to this war. It wasn't a war of choice Bruce it was an openly aggressive war of pre-emption. It wasn't to liberate the poor downtrodden Iraqi's until we found out that there was nothing to pre-empt, and that oops we made a mistake!
When this war started my son was in the Air Force and stationed in the Indian Ocean. I had a very big stake in it, did you? The families of all those who have lost loved ones, or will have to rebuild broken bodies and minds had a very big stake in the war, what comfort is it for them to know it was all based on a lie, and that the callous, duplicitous, warmongers will do nothing to ease their pain, or appreciate their sacrifice.
Mom2,
Perhaps you would be interested to read my son's, ccsykes, other post on "U.S. Troops May Withdraw 2006". Thanks again for the prayers.
