A good weather vane for ill winds blowing through political parties is the sight of candidates switching parties.
It looks like a gale may be brewing in North Carolina. Raw Story has posted a story about a Republican candidate for Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court who is switching parties and burning bridges behind her.

The government shouldn't be in the charity business, it is in the services business, something that all the politicians that want the government to be run like a business forget. Highways, hospitals,police,courthouses,prisons,schools, subsidizing farmers to maintain stable food prices, social security for the elderly, etc. These are all services that actually help maitain law and order in our society, and you get what you pay for. Bush and his CEO golden parachute crowd don't want to pay any more than the first and second estates of France did before the fall of the Bastille. Sooner or later the working class gets tired of being bled dry by both ends of society. That is if there is a working class left in the U.S. after all the jobs have moved to China or India.
